Megababe’s COLDIES Sold Out Before You Even Heard About Them. The Founder Told Us Why.

You know that heat. The kind where your thighs are glued to the car seat, your bra feels like a war crime, and you’ve fully accepted death is on the table. It hits the second you step off a plane, turns your car into a convection oven, and makes you question every life choice that led you to standing outside at 2pm in July.

Megababe looked at that exact moment of misery and said, we can fix this.

On June 25th, they dropped COLDIES, a new lineup of reusable wearable cooling gear, and it sold out so fast the brand had to slap a waitlist on it. Not a “join our list for updates” waitlist either. An actual, people-want-this-badly waitlist.

As someone who has covered chafing and chub rub for the past 17 years, I am always on the lookout for anything that helps me keep my cool, especially as I creep toward pre-menopause, a season of life filled with its own concerns and nerves. So when I saw this, I needed more information STAT, and I had to share it with you too.

We got founder Katie on the record about where this idea came from, how it works, and what’s coming next. Her answers were better than anything a press release could have given us.

The Heat-Mergency That Started It All

Every great Megababe product starts with a very specific, very real moment of discomfort, and COLDIES is no different. Katie traces it back to a trip to Japan in June 2023. “I always joke that it took me the rest of the summer just to cool down from that trip,” she told us. But the image she keeps coming back to is closer to home. “The actual heat-mergency I always picture is standing on a New York corner when it’s 90 degrees out, the blacktop is literally melting, and I am just in absolute hell.”

If you know Megababe, you know they’ve built their whole name on solving the problems nobody else bothers to name out loud. Katie has a personal philosophy for it. “I have a whole life philosophy called ABV, Always Be Venting, because my actual living nightmare is being trapped in head-to-toe clothing with zero ventilation. Managing sweat is one thing, but when you are that hot, you need a break-glass-in-case-of-emergency solution. That’s why I made these.”

So What Are COLDIES, Really?

Here’s the pitch, and it’s a good one. No freezer. No fridge. No soaking it in water and standing around waiting for it to work while you sweat through your shirt. COLDIES are cold the second you take them out of the package, thanks to Phase Change Material that pulls heat straight off your body on contact.

Katie broke down exactly why that matters. “The beauty of Phase Change Material is that it completely solves the logistical nightmare of traditional cooling hacks. Usually, products require refrigeration, freezing, or soaking in water to even work. That means you get a wet, dripping mess that ruins your clothes, or you’re stuck needing a freezer when you’re out living your life.”

With COLDIES, none of that applies. “You put them against your skin, they pull the heat from your body for up to 30 minutes, and the material transforms from a firm solid to soft and squishy. Once they lose their chill, you just take them off and let them rest in your bag or backpack until they re-solidify on their own. No wet mess, no freezer required.”

Two Ways to Wear the Chill

Megababe kept it simple with two formats.

COLDIES Cooling Neck Collar, $20.

Wrap it on, feel it work immediately. Zero learning curve. This is the one you throw in your bag before a flight, a festival, or a day that has “extreme heat warning” written all over it.

COLDIES Bra Inserts, $24.

These tuck between your skin and your bra, no adhesive required, your bra does the holding. The half moon shape is built to fit under a range of shapes, and that design choice was intentional. “We wanted to make sure they fit comfortably and ergonomically where women need them most,” Katie said. “The biggest hurdle with products like this is that women are taught to just ‘deal with’ discomfort, or they rely on weird hacks they learned when they were teenagers.”

The goal was function without the awkwardness that usually comes with medical-adjacent products. “When we designed the Bra Inserts, the goal was to create a discreet, half-moon shape that fits perfectly into the bra to stay put without needing messy adhesives. The feedback that shaped the final fit was ensuring it made direct contact with the skin where heat pools, without looking ridiculous. We wanted to provide a real tool for comfort, wrapped in cute, non-embarrassing marketing, not something that looks like it came from the back of your dad’s drawer.”

Want both? The Bundle runs $40 and saves you a few dollars over buying separately.

Every single one of these is sold out right now. Waitlist only.

This Is Just the Beginning

We had to ask if COLDIES was a one-summer moment or the start of something bigger, and Katie didn’t hold back. “This is absolutely just the beginning. You have got to watch this space for 2027, we have something coming that is going to be completely revolutionary.”

She also gave us a look behind the scenes at how hard this category was to pitch in the first place. “When I first pitched cooling, it wasn’t a natural extension for our retail partners because there isn’t a ‘cooling aisle’ the way there’s a foot care or pain relief aisle. But I pushed hard for it because Megababe is all about filling the needs that big beauty completely ignores. While we launched COLDIES in the summer, our larger strategy is year-round, anti-seasonal comfort. The success of this launch proves we can keep stepping into those dusty OTC sections of the store, refreshing them, and providing real relief for practical discomfort.”

Who COLDIES Is Really For

We asked Katie to picture the exact person she designed this for, and her answer is the reason this product deserves more attention than “cute cooling gadget.”

“I initially made them for the person like me, standing on a scorching New York street corner in 90-degree heat feeling absolutely miserable. But since launching, the community has shown me so many other use cases I hadn’t even thought of. I’m now picturing the woman who suffers from hot flashes, the person experiencing SSRI-induced overheating, or the woman who deals with hormonal sleep issues and is drenched in bed at night. We all have different temperature needs, and COLDIES are for anyone who just wants to feel comfortable in their own skin.”

That’s the range that makes this launch worth watching. This isn’t just a summer novelty for a beach bag. It’s a real answer for anyone whose body runs its own weather system, whether that’s from menopause, medication, hormones, or just existing in a body that overheats faster than everyone else’s.

Should You Get On The Waitlist?

If your summer includes airports, stadiums, backyard cookouts with zero shade, a commute that turns you into a puddle before your coffee even kicks in, or nights where your own body feels like the enemy, yes.

Get on it.

Join the COLDIES waitlist here and keep your notifications on, because a brand that sells out this fast on launch day is not going to sit on a restock for long.

You know what? I think this is brilliant. Anything that helps me get through these 100 plus degree temperatures, sleep through the night, or ride out my own random bursts of heat that throw off my whole day and make me question everything, I am here for it.

I am curious, have you been looking for solutions like this? Had you heard of COLDIES before now?

Have you tried Thigh Rescue, Bust Dust, or any other Megababe cult favorite? Tell us in the comments what’s saving your summer right now, because we know it is not just the AC.
